Snapshot No. 690-694

694. A tama-musi

Tamamusi Tamamusi 2

A tama-musi lay on the ground at my place.

A strange thing is that
those like cicadas lying on the ground are quickly disposed of by ants. Whereas, ants do not come to the tama-musi for many days.

Birds are said to have a great aversion to the metalic hue of tama-musi.
It might be the case for ants too.

Some people think this is a rare species. NOT SO at all. A careful look at the top areas of large enoki trees in the mid day of hot summer reveals many of this insects flying.

A salient feature of this bug is this metalic color after all.

It looks to be called a structual color. Namely, the color is caused by the interference of the lights reflected from many layers of light-wave-lengh scale membrane.

As it is not colored by pigments, the color and hue are kept as long as this structure is intact.

Tamamusi 3 The right shows the comparison of a tama-musi wich I preserved for several years and the one I picked up yesterday.

Surely they look the same. Nothing has changed.

693. After the heavy rain

Inba marsh after the yesterday's heavy rain.

Inba-numa

Around the area of A boat dock.

On Sat. and Sun., this place is usually crowded by bass-fishing boats coming from all over the Kanto area.

Tohough it is Saturday today, no one is here.

A parking lot at another place.

Inba-numa 2 No entry allowed.

Swans which have stayed during the summer around this area are swimming on the parking lot.

The pair has looked fine always. It looks there is no need for them to migrate to the north.

The exact water level of the marsh is shown in the website of the Water Resource Management Agency.

The data below show the the water level at the measuring station close to my usual bicycle road.

The graph shows that the water level
was 1.2 m yesterday morning, and
exceeded the flood caution level of 3.4 m in the midnight, and
reached to 3.5 m, and thereafter
steady without much change.

692. Autumn looks coming

Kunugi donguri An acorn of kunugi picked up at a nearby street. Looks the summer is going to end.

Jiro, turned 18 last week, looks to have somehow overcome the hot summer. Although he was given a birthday cake, he showed no interest after licking it once.

691. 357 - 380 - 406 * 10^3 km

Today's o-tuki-san (Doña moon).

A nyudou-gumo As today's full moon is said to be at the nearest to us, I took this photo.

Although it should look larger than usual, it looked, for me, not particularly so different.

Today's geocentric distance is 357,000 km.
As the average is 38,000 km, probably it looked larger.

The opposite occasion this year was in Feb. with 406,000 km.

To judge how large or small,
it looks we have no other way than
to compare images taken with the exactly same settings, in parallel.

690. Kaminari san (Don thunder)

A nyudou-gumo On getting the door on our evening walk, I found this cloud rising up noticebaly in the western sky.

Though I doubted the cloud to develop further at that late hour, the kaminari san might come in the night.

Those who engage in the radio all have taken measures to counter the thunder storm. However, if suspicious, the best is to disconnect radios, PC, audio, etc. from the antennas and power.
